Winter Wonderland in Switzerland

SUMMARY

Dates: Sunday January 25th to Saturday January 31st  2026 – 6 nights and 5 days of winter activities including snow shoeing, winter walking, tobogganing plus relaxing and access to a hot tub.

Guide: Our local english speaking Swiss guide Vroni and WalkingWomen‘s Ginny.

Walking Grade: 2 Goats – this is an opportunity to try snow shoeing and winter hiking and see some incredible winter wonderland landscapes. Snow is not guaranteed these days and this area offers some fantastic walks right from the door. We will start steady and slow and give you a chance to test out your alpine legs. There will be options to do shorter walks and stop and stare to marvel at the stunning views.

There are down hill ski slopes for those interested – this is not included in what we offer but we can help you arrange it at your own risk. We advise winter activity insurance.

Base: Hotel BelleVue Wengen in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. You reach Wengen by taking a short shuttle train up from Lauterbrunnen not far from InterLaken. You will be stunned as you travel up with views of the Jungfrau Mountains as you climb. Our hotel is at 1274 metres and views are stunning. The hotel is a traditional chalet owned by Judith Grau. She and her team give you a wonderful welcome and you will be well looked after during your stay. There are views of the mountains from every room and fabulous spaces for sitting to relax and admire.

Arrival: We meet for welcome drinks and a briefing at 18.00 on Sunday at the Hotel Bellevue,Wengen.

If you would like an orientation walk around Wengen before our briefing arrive by 14.00.

We will give detailed information about travel in your travel information pack. There will be a group meet up at Lauterbrunnen at 13.00 to travel up together. For those needing luggage taken to the hotel there is transport to pick it up which we will arrange.

Departure: on Saturday after breakfast – approx 10.30am after check out.

• 5 day sledging/hiking pass for the JungFrau region which gives you a free pass for all cable cars including the Eiger Express. It also gives a half fare on the JungFrauJoch Train to the top of the world which is not to be missed.
• English speaking guide who lives in Wengen – 4 days of guided activities.

At WalkingWomen we like to give our guests the chance to experience many different locations and to try new activities. Snow shoeing or winter hiking enables you to walk in deep snow and get to places you just cannot get to without this equipment. If there is no snow we can do some spectacular walking right from the hotel door.

Wengen is a charming Swiss Village nestling amidst the majestic Bernese Alps. It has been a sought after destination amongst travellers for centuries. With the breathtaking views of some of Switzerlands’s highest mountains from your bedroom windows – you are in for a winter wonderland treat!

We get high up into the Alps using trains and gondolas to be able to walk amongst some of the impressive mountain ranges and have spectacular views that are hard to imagine until you are there.

Some people have never tried snow shoeing or walked in snow. We like to give you the chance to get off the beaten track and adventure!

Switzerland has so much to offer and we want to tempt you to join us – or re join us!

ITINERARY

Itinerary may change depending on the weather and at the discretion of our guide. There are options and we can vary snowshoeing, hiking and other activities depending on the group.

Sunday : Arrival at your hotel in time to settle in. Once you are settled in we will meet in the cosy bar for a welcome drink and a briefing. Dinner will follow. For those arriving earlier we will do an orientation walk to discover the small village of Wengen.

Mon, Tuesday ,Thursday and Friday there will be an activity starting at 9:30. We will be out for 3 – 4 hours per day. Details nearer the time but expect to be wowed by the scenery.

There will be various options for other activities during the week – to showcase the best of Switzerland and this area. Last year a favourite was tobogganing down from the base of the Eiger to Wengen.

On Wednesday we will have a rest day with options to visit some of the surrounding sights of interest. This is the day to visit the top of the world JungfrauJoch for those who would like to experience it.
