DETAILS
Set between Venice and the Dolomites, the Prosecco Hills are an undiscovered world. Centuries of agriculture have modeled the landscape into one of the most beautiful sceneries among the hills of Italy. Steep slopes covered in vineyards, deciduous forests and streams of water, give birth to the highest quality of Prosecco.
The hills became part of UNESCO world heritage in 2019, thanks to their unique features: a mosaic of vineyards, little towns and forests, grassy terraces and hogback ridges.
Despite Prosecco being well known all around the world, the region is still quiet and authentic, far away from big tourist circuits. A wonderful walking place!
ITINERARY
Our itinerary could change depending on the weather and at your guides discretion. Vania will brief you each day if there are to be any changes. On all WalkingWomen holidays we say bring your spirit of adventure and trust your guide as they know their local area and will always guide you to give you the best experience,
DAY 1 – ARRIVAL – Pick up at Venice airport around 18.00.
Briefing and Dinner together
DAY 2 – THE HILLS OF FARRA DI SOLIGO Approx 11.5 km – 350m of ascent and descent.
On the first day we explore the hills of Farra di Soligo, where we find some of the most spectacular views of the Prosecco Hills.
The walk starts at the foot of the hills and takes us all the way to the top. We will be walking through a gorge that ends in a small waterfall, we will be walking through woods and vineyards. Some ascents will be steep, and will lead us to understand the hard work that farmers have been doing for centuries, creating a solid connection with the landscape.
Once on the ridge, on an undulating path we will reach one of the gems of this area: the small Sanctuary of Collagù.
After a picnic lunch we will walk back to the Agriturismo.
DAY 3 – MONTELLO HILL AND ITS TREASURE – Circular walk – 8 km – 280 m up and down.
Montello Hill is the first hill you see when you are driving from Venice towards the mountains. It is full of history and natural beauties.
We start our walk from the bottom at Nervesa della Battaglia and after a little climb, we reach the remains of the Sant’Eustachio Abbey. For centuries it ruled the area, being one of the most powerful religious centers of the Treviso province.
The walk then takes us to one of the monuments of the hill that reminds us of the battles fought during the First World War.
We continue through the shade of woods. The Hill was ruled for centuries by the Venetian Republic and it used to be nursery for oak trees that were used to build ships in Venetian shipyards.
We end our walk with a visit to a winery and cheesemaker where we have a light lunch.
DAY 4 – THE ASOLO HILLS AND PICTURESQUE ASOLO. Approx 11 km – 480m ascent and 430m descent.
Today we explore another range of hills of the area, the Asolo Hills, which are the connection between the plain and the mountains.
We will start our walk in Cornuda, where a wide path will take us to the ridge of the hills. The undulating path takes us from one end to the other of the range, with some views on the mountains and the plain.
We have our packed lunch at the little chapel dedicated to St. George. On a clear day you can spot the lagoon of Venice.
The walk finally leads us to Asolo, home for many artists and famous characters like Robert Browning and Freya Stark. The town is considered one of the most beautiful of the region, with its alleys and historical buildings.
Bus back to the Agriturismo.
DAY 5 – FREE DAY to visit Treviso, Venice or Padova or to relax at your accommodation. There could be an option of a cookery class at the Agriturismo.
DAY 6 – THE HEART OF THE PROSECCO HILLS approx 12 km – 500 m ascent and descent.
Today we go back to the Prosecco Hills. Starting from the town of Vidor, today we are walking on the new Camino delle Colline del Prosecco, a trail that goes across the UNESCO hills.
We will walk a small part of it, which will take us from Vidor to the municipality of Valdobbiadene, one of the two towns famous for Prosecco production.
Walking through lines of vineyards, through steep hills, we will plunge into the atmosphere of this place, feeling the strong connection between mankind and the earth. Lines of vineyards follow the contours of steep slopes, creating what we nowadays call heroic agricolture. This strong relationship makes the Prosecco Hills a special place.
The walk is characterized by steep ascents and descents, walking from one ridge to the other and finally going down to the valley that separates us from our winery.
Our lunch today is at Pietrovecchio winery, run by Laura and her family. Here we will taste some local products and of course we will be tasting their incredible Prosecco.
After lunch with wine tasting we take a bus back to our accommodation.
DAY 7 – REVINE LAKES – circular walk approx 8km with 50m ascent and descent.
For our last day, we go on a relaxing walk around the Lakes of Revine. The two lakes of the Prosecco area were carved by the glaciers of the Ice Era.
The walk is very pleasant, allowing us to enjoy the views. The two lakes are right between the hills and the mountains, a refreshing opportunity to dip in the lake especially during summer days.
We stop for lunch at a restaurant by the lake where they also serve pizza. It is possible to rent umbrellas and sun beds (cost around 10-15 €). The entrance allows us to use the swimming pool and we can also swim in the lake. A lovely end to our week.
DAY 8 – DEPARTURE – Transfer to Venice airport after breakfast.
