Summer hiking in Andorra is one of those hidden adventures. How wonderful to walk trails that connect Andorra, Spain and France, to look out over expansive spaces empty of people, to see eagles soaring overhead. This is a holiday to immerse yourself in the great Pyrenees.

Walking Grade: 2 Goats. Walks may vary depending on the weather and the itinerary gives you an idea of the walks you will do that give you a taste of the wonderful Pyrenees mountains.
Maximum Ascent: 500m
Maximum Distance: 7 miles/12 km
Terrain: mountain trails – generally smooth tracks but some rocky parts.
Base: Hotel Coma an old favourite of WalkingWomen, situated in Ordino in the heart of the Pyrenees. It is a walk into the small town where there are lots of cafes and restaurants. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool (open weather permitting) and gardens for sitting and looking at the mountains.
Arrivals: Fly to Barcelona to arrive for a group transfer leaving at approximately 3pm. The journey is about a 3 hour drive to our hotel in Ordino. We arrive for a welcome briefing and dinner together at the hotel.
Departures: For the return journey we will leave the hotel after breakfast so return flights best booked after 3pm on Saturday. The journey is about 3 hours from Ordino to Barcelona Airport. A group airport transfer is included in the price.
If you need to travel at different times or to a different location there is a local bus service which is very good Andorra Bus Service

DETAILS
This holiday is located in the picturesque town of Ordino which is home to museums and the starting point of many varied walks to explore the Andorra side of the Pyrenees and surrounding area. Our walks will give you a spectacular introduction to Andorra and the Pyrenees, or if you have been before, a chance to rediscover this beautiful country.
In June you will see alpine spring flowers.
Our hotel is known for charming Andorran hospitality and traditional cuisine. It has a swimming pool, tennis courts and has a restaurant and a beautiful terrace with views of the mountains. The pool may not be open in June (it depends on the weather).
There is an indoor sports centre a 10 minute walk away which was well used last year. It is open from 7am in the morning until 8pm sometimes later. There is a large pool and spa facilities including an ice bucket!
ITINERARY
The itinerary may change depending on the weather and at the discretion of our guide. Every day we discuss with the group. The walks are to give you the best experience of this area..
The walks give you an opportunity to explore this wonderful area and experience the variety of the landscapes. You should see wild horses, eagles and a variety of local wildlife as well as flora and fauna.
There will be a free day and options for excursions to explore more of the area.
Day 1 Saturday : Arrival in Andorra – settle in to your hotel, meet the guide and have a pre dinner briefing about the week. Dinner together at the hotel.
Day 2: Tristaina lakes – 3.5km with 380m ascent
An easy walk to get your mountain legs. We meander beside a string of 3 high glacial lakes situated in a glacial cirque. Alpine flowers and breathtaking views.
If the weather is good we might do a slightly more challenging route of 5km.
Day 3: Sorteny Natural Park. 3km with 280 m ascent.
This Park is exceptional for its variety of flora,fauna and birds. The itinerary includes a historical mountain hut and is a round trip which finishes in the adjoining valley of Rialb.
Day 4: Ciscaro Lake. 10km with 600m ascent. Today the walk is a longer walk of medium difficulty.
We walk the Incles Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in Andorra. Our path follows the stream with waterfalls, marsh land and lakes with a wonderful variety of flora along the way. There is a very pretty glacial lake at 2300m.
Day 5: Wednesday: Rest day with a chance to walk locally, have lunch somewhere different or a day to relax at the hotel
Day 6: Pla de L’Estany. 6km 500m ascent
Glacial circ,highest mountains in Andorra. This is a nice round circuit. First up to the Pla de L’Estany with its mountain hut and impressive steep sides,then across to high mountain “bordas” (barns) and through some fields and back to Arinsal village.
Day 7: Final walk day the Rialp Valley – the Blue Lake. 10km. 615m ascent.
Our aim is to cross the frontier into France and to see the blue lake with its incredible colour just over the border. There are great views.
