A new weekend of walking in this lovely area of the country, taking in stretches of the River Thames and its surrounding countryside. On Saturday, we will take a leisurely six-mile walk downstream to the historic town of Windsor. There is much to see along the way and, once there, we will have time to visit the Royal castle (not included) or take a walk around Windsor and the smaller and older town of Eton with its famous college.
On Sunday, we can take transport for the short journey to the pretty village of Cookham. From here we may head over the escarpment to Cookham Dean and back along the river past Bourne End where the River Wye meets the Thames. We will enjoy lovely, far-reaching views from today’s high point. While in Cookham, we could make a brief visit to the Stanley Spencer Gallery on the High Street – where there is also a very nice tea-shop!
On Friday, there is an extra afternoon walk for those who can arrive by 2pm. We may head along the east bank of the Thames from the hotel through a new country park and over a new footbridge to Ray Mill Island and Boulters Lock. We then return on the west bank along a pretty riverside promenade.
We stay at the comfortable riverside Thames Riviera Hotel in Berkshire with its light, airy rooms. We will have our evening meals here and for lunch will enjoy exploring the local cafes (not included) https://thamesriviera.com/
