There are fells aplenty to enjoy on this wonderful walking holiday based in the very heart of the Lake District. Within striding distance of our base in Grasmere are many stunningly beautiful locations. We will head up to Easedale Tarn on one day, situated in a deep bowl surrounded by craggy hills it really is a must do walk! Other options for our outings may include Alcock Tarn, a natural infinity pool with far reaching views across Windermere and beyond. This is a true gem to savour at your leisure. We may also seek out Grasmere lake itself and the adjoining Rydal Water perhaps via the historic Coffin Trail. One day, if we don’t mind driving, we may head towards the dramatic Langdale Pikes, with their rugged outcrops and memorable skyline and explore the area around Elterwater.
We are based at comfortable Glenthorne Guest House which offers full board accommodation – with post walk tea and cakes thrown in too! Glenthorne is situated a few minutes walk from the centre of Grasmere and sits in a peaceful garden with views over the fells. There is a lounge, conservatory and a separate table tennis / yoga room where you can stretch yourself or simply stretch out.
Grasmere itself has much to offer including Dove Cottage, former home of Lakeland poet, William Wordsworth. There are many independent shops and plenty of outdoor shops too and a visit to Sarah Nelson’s traditional gingerbread shop is a must – a great option if you need to buy a small gift – or a post walk treat!
