2017 Gentle and Intermediate Ramsau, Styrian Alps NEW!

9th -16th Sep 2017 (Sat - Sat)
7 Nights Full Board - £830

Set in the heart of the Styrian mountains in Austria, Ramsau is a stunning place to walk. The mountains are easily accessible and offer a great range of walks from the Ramsau plateau to Alpine pastures and, by using the cable car, to the Dachstein glacier above. This new holiday will offer a gentle and intermediate walk each day.

An easy walk along the valley takes us to ‘Ramsau Beach,’ a swimming lake (with a café!) and a little further down the valley we reach Ramsau village where there are a few shops and cafes and a modern indoor swimming pool. We may hike to the historic Austria Hut and Alpine Museum, or on another day walk up to the Walcheralm where cheese is still made over the summer months. Up on the Dachstein itself at 3000m there are wide, gentle walking routes with fabulous mountain views; a visit to the ‘Ice Palace’ deep inside the glacier is a must and, if you have a head for heights, the ‘nerve-tingling excitement’ of the suspension footbridge and the Dachstein Sky Walk.

A free day will offer the opportunity to take a day trip to Salzburg (cost not included) or have a relaxing day off around Ramsau or visit the nearby town of Schladming (local transport is free.) There are numerous activities to choose from locally too: from leisurely horse-drawn carriage rides or bowling to hiring an electric bike for the day or a high ropes course.

We will be based for 7 nights at the family run Walcherhof Pension where a warm welcome awaits and plenty of wholesome food: a traditional Austrian lodge with ensuite facilities which also offers a sauna. The accommodation is first class with lovely big rooms and plenty of storage.

Price includes: 7 nights full board accommodation; airport transfer at certain times; all transport to walks. Single rooms available if you book early – £15 per night supplement.

Not included: flight to Salzburg
