58 holidays and 500 wonderful walking women
3 years ago no one was travelling and we took the step to relaunch WalkingWomen. We knew women wanted to get out there – to get out into nature, to connect with others and really live life. We ran 30 holidays in 2022 and have now in 2024 almost doubled what we offer. Our youngest walker is 22 and our oldest 92 and they come from across the world. This year the furthest travelled was from Australia to Wales!
Every step of the way supported by our community of walking women
There are so many highlights and as we end the year we share a few
From the green lands of England, to the highlands of Scotland we have walked and walked. From the highest mountain in Spain to the peace of the Turkish Mediterranean we have offered a range of walking experiences. Some favourites of WalkingWomen for 25 years whilst others are new. We listen and we seek out what we feel will provide wonderful walking adventures. Many come from women who tell us about a woman guide they have discovered who they think could be perfect for WalkingWomen – or a location they have discovered and want to share. We grow with the support of our community.
In 2024 we began the year encouraging winter sports and we had snow shoeing in Switzerland and our first trip to a lesbian chalet hotel in the French Alps. Some people prefer winter warmth but we love to offer exhilarating winter opportunities too. A hot tub in the snow after a day snow shoeing in the Alps – what’s not to love . We are not offering this in 2025 but you may want to visit and we have a WalkingWomen discount Our favourite French Chalet in the Alps
As well as offering holidays we also share hotels who offer a WalkingWomen discount for you to visit at any time. We began offering private holidays this year which we tailor for groups of friends. If you like the look of something, but prefer your own thing then get in touch. We are flexible and can help create great experiences.
Our most popular destinations in 2024 were:
- La Gomera, The Canaries for winter warmth
- Priorat, Northern Spain for wine walking
- Norway. Dalseter for all year round activities from cross country skiing to hiking through the seasons
- The Cairngorms, Scotland for its varied itinerary and immersion into Scotland
All are offered in 2025 as we like to give more women the chance to experience our most popular places. We also always add new and in 2024 for the first time ever we took over a hotel for our Annual Lesbian Summer holiday.
The English Lake District home for a week to 40 women
It rained and it poured but not once did we hear a complaint. Everyone put on their rain gear and enjoyed some great walking with our 4 great guides Lorraine, Jo, Brenda and Heidi. To return to a cosy, warm hotel – the Glaramara Hotel was a treat. We will do this again in 2026 so keep an eye on our website as it will be open for bookings very soon. We had more interest in long distance trekking
- The Camino Way, Portugal
- The Heart of Switzerland
- The Sheep’s Head Way, Ireland
- The Lighthouse Way, 200km around the coast of Galicia, Northern Spain
- Truilli Trekking in Puglia
Sometimes we want a challenge and we found many, many retired women want to keep active and do things that challenge them. We will continue to provide all sorts of trekking opportunities and let us know if you have any in mind.
And for the first time we went to Lincolnshire – our homeland
We had sisters from Canada join us as well as other more local women. We walked the Wolds and went to Woodhall Spa and visited the Kinema in the Woods to see the film OutRun set in Orkney, another of our popular Scottish holidays. Lincolnshire is a little known part of England and one we were delighted to explore with our curious walking women.
