Join us for our wonderful city break in Salisbury, a quintessentially English city full of charm and history. Salisbury’s cathedral dominates the skyline, having the tallest spire in Britain. It is one of the finest medieval cathedrals in the country full of grandeur at every turn. It houses the best preserved of the 4 original Magna Carta dating from 1215 which we can visit. The Cathedral Close is lined with fine buildings and we will be housed here at Sarum College – serenity in the heart of the city. On one day we will join a tour of the city led by a Blue Badge guide in order to get to the heart of the city. On Saturday we will take time to visit the Charter Market, a bustling, traditional market which has been a feature of the city since 1227. During our visit we will walk out through the Avon Valley Nature Reserve to the English Heritage site of Old Sarum with its fascinating history spanning from the Iron Age onwards. On another day we may follow in the footsteps of John Constable across the famed water meadows – a remnant of 17th century farming and now home to a wide variety of wildlife and flowers. In the evenings our guide will arrange for us to eat out in different locations in the city (not included).

“Excellent. A good mix of city and country / riverside walks. Highlight was evensong in the cathedral.” Margaret
