The medieval towns of Rye and Winchelsea are the base for our holiday in this lovely part of East Sussex. Staying in Rye we will have the chance to discover the fascinating history of the town with a walk through the cobbled streets and along the ramparts of this ancient member of the Cinque Ports. Our walks will take us across the marshes to the sea, through the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve with a chance to visit the bird hides and Camber Castle on one day. The next day we will take the path to Winchelsea walking along the Military Canal and into the peaceful and beautiful village where we can visit the Church of St Michael (last resting place of Spike Milligan) and walk the streets of this medieval, once bustling, town. There will be an extra walk exploring Rye on Friday afternoon if you can arrive by 1.30pm.
We will stay at the River Haven Hotel on the river in Rye, a comfortable modern hotel 5 minutes walk from the station and the centre of the town where we can enjoy afternoon tea, wonderful shops and excellent restaurants. We will eat out in Rye in the evenings (not included).
Price includes: 2 nights part board accommodation; entrance to Camber Castle. Single rooms available if you book early – £15 per night supplement
“I really enjoy the short 2 / 3 night breaks especially exploring different towns and cities. Rye was a good mix of history, excellent walking and nice restaurants to eat out in.” Margaret
