Built in AD 122 during the time of Emperor Hadrian to “separate the Romans from the Barbarians”, Hadrian’s Wall is Europe’s largest surviving Roman monument and a UNESCO world heritage site. We will stay at the extremely comfortable and welcoming Centre of Britain Inn in Haltwhistle, a traditional market town in the border county of Northumberland, which lies in the beautiful South Tyne valley. The inn has a prime location for exploring some of the most spectacular sections of the Wall as well as the beautiful Northumbrian countryside beyond. There will be milecastles, turrets, Robin Hood’s tree, fascinating Roman forts, and dramatic stretches of the Wall. We will take time to visit Vindolanda, Housteads and Birdoswold forts along the way. In the evenings we will eat together at the hotel. The nearest station is Haltwhistle, between Newcastle and Carlisle. There is a heated outdoor pool in Haltwhistle so please bring your costume!
Price includes: 4 nights full board in ensuite twin rooms; transport to walks; entrance to Vindolanda, Housteads and Birdoswald. Single ensuite room £15 per night – book early!
