Grasmere is one of the most central of the Lake District valleys, with stunning scenery that has inspired poets and artists alike. There are beautiful and varied paths at every level, and plenty to do after walking – from exploring Grasmere village with its teashops and outdoor shops, to visiting Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage or going rowing on the lake.
Grasmere is a wonderful area for gentle breaks with a host of low level choices. We might start with a lovely lakeshore path beside Grasmere and Rydal Water, returning via Rydal Cave and Loughrigg Terrace for its stunning view over the lake. The wooded bridle path to Rydal village is also delightful, and we might stop at White Moss Common for the view – or at Rydal Hall for tea beside its tumbling beck. We can walk to beautiful Loughrigg Tarn or climb the path beside Sour Milk Gill waterfall to Easedale Tarn.
This holiday enables us to walk through stunning scenery and so take a breather from this busy world. By taking regular exercise out in green spaces, it boosts endorphins, raises self-esteem and creates greater calm to both the mind and body. To further aid this natural calming, we will also draw on Yoga, meditation and mindfulness. We will start the morning with gentle movement followed by meditation. We will walk 5 miles during the day, stopping along the way to take in the views and to allow for reflection. Our afternoon yoga session will allow further opportunity to relax and stretch. We usually have lots of fun too – laughter is another great stress reliever after all!
All our Grasmere breaks stay at Glenthorne Guest House – always a favourite! Glenthorne is a comfortable and friendly place to stay, serving excellent food with a table license and including a delicious vegetarian option each day. There’s a tradition here of free tea and cakes after walking. It has a big garden with lovely views, a sizeable lounge with a conservatory, a separate yoga room and a large car park. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities. Holidays here are priced on a full board basis. Grasmere’s nearest train station is Windermere, and there is a regular bus service from the station.
Price includes: 3 nights full board in twin rooms – Single rooms may be available (supplement from £10) if you book early!
